What most people get wrong

The hard part of hail damage isn't the dents — it's everything around them

You are staring at a car full of dents wondering whether it is covered, whether it will move your rates, and which of the shops calling you is actually legitimate. That uncertainty is the real weight, and it is the part we lift first.

You don't know where to start

Most first-timers have never filed a comprehensive claim. Our free walkthrough asks a few questions, prepares a summary with your photos, and tells you exactly what to say when you call your insurer.

The first estimate runs low

Photo-based and catastrophe-site estimates routinely undercount dents by 20–40%. We map every panel in person under LED line boards and submit a supplement so the approved amount matches the real work.

You don't want a project

After you file, the repair is ours to carry. We meet the adjuster, pick the vehicle up across the metro, repair it in 1–3 days, and deliver it back warrantied for life.

What paintless dent repair actually involves

How does LED line-board inspection reveal every hail dent?

The honest version of the work — the inspection, the mapping, and the two techniques that put each panel back to factory contour without touching the paint.

LED line-board inspection and panel-by-panel mapping

Every vehicle starts under an LED line board. The board projects bright stripes across each panel, and any break in a stripe reveals a dent that disappears under normal light. That is how we catch the dents outdoor estimators miss. From there we map the damage panel by panel and count it by size — dime, nickel, quarter, half-dollar — which drives the CCC ONE estimate your adjuster works from, so nothing is lost in translation when they review it.

The push method, the glue pull method, factory paint preserved

Most dents come out with the push method. Precision rods reach behind the panel through existing openings, and each dent is worked back to its original shape by hand. Double-walled panels with no rear access use the glue pull method — a tab is bonded to the outer skin, pulled, then any high spots are knocked down. Both preserve the factory paint entirely: no sanding, no filler, no repaint, and no CarFax body-repair flag. Final quality control happens back under the line board to confirm every mapped dent reads flat.

What to expect on cost

How much does hail damage repair cost in Kansas City?

What you pay comes down to two things: the number of dents and whether your vehicle has aluminum panels. With comprehensive coverage the claim covers the repair and you are responsible for your deductible, which is why filing usually makes sense once you are past light damage.

Light

50–100 dents · dime to nickel · 3–5 panels

$1,500 – $3,500

Repair time: About 3–6 hours

Often a same-day repair

Moderate

100–300 dents · nickel to quarter · 6–10 panels

$3,500 – $8,000

Repair time: 1–3 shop days

Comprehensive usually covers it

Severe

300+ dents · quarter and larger · most panels

$8,000 – $15,000+

Repair time: 3–7 shop days

What can add to the base matrix

A few factors sit on top of the standard hail matrix. Each one is disclosed before any work begins and shows up as its own line on the estimate, never as a surprise on the invoice.

  • Aluminum or high-strength steel: +25%. The metal takes heat and specialized pulling. Aluminum hail repair has its own guide.
  • Double-metal or glue-pull panels: +25%. Panels with no rear access take longer to work from the outside.
  • Extended-roof vehicles: +25%. SUVs, vans, and extended-cab trucks carry more panel area to map and repair.
  • Oversized dents larger than a half-dollar: billed per dent as separate line items.

At your place or our shop. We map every dent under LED line boards and write it up in CCC ONE format.

3

You file your claim

You open it with your carrier — it’s yours. We hand you the exact script for your insurer. We never file for you.

Factory paint stays factory

No filler, no repaint, no CarFax body-repair flag. Your resale value stays where it was before the storm.

We close the estimate gap

We reinspect every vehicle under LED line boards and typically document 20–40% more damage than the first estimate, then submit it as a supplement.

1–3 day turnaround

Most hail jobs finish in the same window many body shops take just to schedule the first appointment. Severe damage runs 3–7 days.

Hail damage repair questions

How much does hail damage repair cost in Kansas City?

Cost comes down to the number and size of the dents. Light damage (50–100 dime-to-nickel dents across a few panels) runs $1,500–$3,500. Moderate damage (100–300 nickel-to-quarter dents across 6–10 panels) runs $3,500–$8,000. Severe damage (300+ dents, quarter-and-larger sizes) runs $8,000–$15,000+. Aluminum panels add roughly 25% because the metal takes heat and specialized pulling.

With comprehensive coverage, the claim covers the repair and you are responsible for your deductible — see how deductibles work with hail claims.

Will filing a hail damage claim raise my insurance rates?

In most cases, no. Hail is filed as a comprehensive claim rather than collision, which insurers treat as a no-fault event — there is no driver at fault. Comprehensive claims typically do not move your premium the way an at-fault accident does.

Edge cases exist, such as several claims in a short window. Read the full breakdown for your specific carrier.

How long does paintless dent repair take for hail damage?

Most hail repairs finish in 1–3 days. Light damage often turns around the same day. Moderate damage (100–300 dents) typically takes 1–3 shop days. Severe damage (300+ dents across most panels) can run 3–7 days depending on how much trim has to come off to reach the back of each panel.

The slowest part is usually waiting on the insurance supplement to clear, which takes 1–2 business days after we submit it.

Can all hail damage be repaired with paintless dent repair?

The vast majority of it, yes. Paintless dent repair works on any dent where the paint has not cracked, the metal has not stretched past its elastic limit, and the panel was never repaired with body filler. That covers the great majority of hail damage we see in Kansas City.

The rare exceptions — cracked paint on a sharp body line, a dent on a folded edge, or a panel that needs replacement — we identify during the free LED inspection and explain your options. Full guide to what is repairable.

Will hail damage repair show up on my CarFax?

Paintless dent repair does not generate a CarFax body-shop record. Because we do not use filler, do not repaint, and do not replace panels, there is no body repair for CarFax to flag. Your factory paint stays factory, and your resale value stays intact.

That is one of the biggest reasons to choose paintless dent repair over a traditional body shop for hail. Read more on the CarFax question.

Do I have to use my insurance company's preferred shop?

No. Missouri and Kansas both protect your right to choose the repair facility. Missouri requires shops to post a notice that the vehicle owner has the right to choose where repairs are made, and Kansas protects the same right. Your insurer can recommend a shop, but it cannot require one — and the carrier pays the same either way.

Full breakdown of your right to choose your shop.

What if my insurance company's estimate is lower than the real damage?

That is common, and it is fixable. First estimates — especially photo-based and catastrophe-site reviews — routinely undercount dents by 20–40% because an adjuster cannot map a roof from a photo the way a technician can under LED lighting. We document every panel in person and submit a supplement, and insurance approval typically takes 1–2 business days.

We write every estimate in CCC ONE format, the system most shops and adjusters use, which keeps the review fast. How supplement documentation works.

Is Hail Solutions a local shop or a traveling operator?

A permanent Olathe shop since 2002. Bryan Wilson has run Hail Solutions out of the same Kansas City metro location for 23 years, at 2109 E Kansas City Rd, #22, Olathe, KS. We do not work out of a hotel or a seasonal trailer, and we do not disappear when hail season ends.

If warranty work ever comes up, you know exactly where to find us. Why a local shop matters for hail repair.
